| Hmm, there are a lot of reasons, actually. -Is there pressure to have sex so young? Yeah, of course. Especially if your partner is forcing or manipulating you into having sex with he/she. Eg: "I love you" when really they just want sex and the victim is manipulated and does it, so therefore regretting it later on. Also, from the media and television programs. I watch Gossip Girl & I have to admit, they make it look so easy & also they make it look like it's cool to have sex at a young age. It's not like this in reality, obviously, but some people think it is. Have you ever pretended to have sex? No, it will damage my reputation. A lot of people at my school will judge you for it. Even though I haven't, I don't want nasty rumors going around about myself. Why do you think so many very young teens/guys are having sex? Because they think they've already grown up. | My daughter is only 2 so I'm not facing this yet, but my personal feeling is. Group dates only until 16, then she will be able to go out alone. I will have to meet the boy first. There will be a curfew and I will need to know where they are going. When it comes to sex, I plan to discuss all the consequences with her and hope that I can show her it is a serious decision not to be made in the rush of passion. Also I want to have a open relationship so she can come to me with questions. This is a personal judgement call though. You need to decide the guidelines you set for your guy based on your values. |

| Okay for one thing. I am well aware of what it feels like to wonder a lot about sex when my sex ed class SUCKED. My parents were too like...protective I guess about me asking them questions so I kind of had to learn on my own. Here's my opinion...Parents do this because they don't want their guys to know because maybe if they know they'd want to try it. Even protected sex can lead to pregnancy no matter how unlikely it is, it's not impossible to get pregnant with protected sex. Or, they don't know how to explain it well I guess. | Teen pregnancy has always been around, and always will be - seems as if however the rate is drastically increasing. My opinion is, is that while it was irresponsible of them, it's not my place to judge or criticize them. We all make mistakes, and it comes out in all different forms. Some more severe than others, but no one is perfect. And that is not to say the baby is a mistake, just the act of safety and responsibility/precautions. Some girls have sex to fit in with their peers, some feel pressured, and some just feel they are ready. A lot of times people act carelessly, teens and adults, and choose not to use protection because it's not available at the time (no condom), and just figure one time won't hurt. One time leads to two, and two leads to more. They think that since it has happened yet, its probably never going to, kind of a vicious cycle. Then there are couples whose birth control methods fail. Which is unfortunate as unplanned pregnancies can be scary, but at the very least they did make an effort. Hope this helps :) |
